The Newgrounds "Everything, By Everyone" Guide Part 1 (Cleaning up NG and Whistle Points Part 1): Guide Explanation

~ Welcome ~

Hello everybody and welcome to my Newgrounds user page! More importantly, welcome to my Complete Newgrounds guide!
No it is not the regular stupid unhelpful type of guide you see time to time in different users' pages.
If you are a regular OR a new user to Newgrounds, I'm hoping that this guide I have been constructing for 8 long years will WOW you on what Newgrounds is, how to use the site, what it has to offer, and much much more. There are some very rare bits of information that may even impress or amaze regulars, such as a sneak-peak to the site moderation tools or an in-depth archive & screenshot archive of old goodies such as old level icons, the old BBS rules, the old FAQ and more.
This guide will begin from the very bottom starting at basic stuff and how to perform basic tasks, but it will slowly go up the ladder until it reaches the site moderation tools section (which is hidden from the users' eyes). There are also interactive parts in this guide; parts that cannot be found in other guides in NG. You must interact with the guide to get what you want. For some cases, it may be flagging reviews for whistle points (easy path for a deity whistle). In other cases, it may be reporting BBS abuse. In any event, users mainly frequent the interactive parts of the guide, since they enjoy using it very much and find it very beneficial.
If you read this ENTIRE guide, then you will know Newgrounds and it's history inside-out! You will know as much as a regular does, and maybe even more. You will know how to use this site to it's full potential without getting into trouble. (Yes so many "you" in there.)
This post, being the first post in the guide, will now show you how you can use this guide so that you can get the MOST out of it. Using the guide can be a bit tricky; some users have told me that. However, read this post and you will know how to navigate around the guide and how to read it without getting stranded and confused.

On top of each guide post (asides from this one) AND on the bottom of each guide post is this:

This is what the guide calls the guide navigation. It's a group of links that can be used to go to different parts of the guide. Since there are many posts that are off-topic (in other words, irrelevant news posts about random crap that isn't related to the guide) between actual guide posts, use the navigational pane to smoothly navigate your way through this guide. Here are the explanations of each link and where they will lead you to:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[<<<<<<<<<< Back To Part -1 <<<<<<<<<<]
- Clicking on "Back to Part -1" will send you back to the previous part of the guide. Note that the "-1" will be replaced by the actual part number. So if you're in Part 94, it will say "Back to Part 93".
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part +1 >>>>>>>>>>]
- Clicking on "Next to Part +1" will send you to the next part of the guide. Note that the "+1" will be replaced by the actual Part number. So if you're in Part 325, it will say "Next to Part 326"
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[<<<<<<<<<< Back To Part X <<<<<<<<<<]
- There may be a case where the previous guide post is a blank post, or a NSFW (Not Safe For Work) post. If that is the case, then the "Back To Part -1" link will link to that blank post and THIS "Back To Part X" will link to the nearest actual guide post/safe for work post behind the current guide post you were currently in. You can call it an alternate path to jump over the blank post(s) / NSFW post. Now for example, if you're in Part 100, Part 99 is a blank post and Part 98 is a guide post, then the "Back To Part -1" will become "Back to Part 99" (despite it being a blank post) and the "Back To Part X" will become "Back to Part 98". This is a very easy way to skip a blank post / NSFW post and will become extremely handy when you have to jump over 2,000 or so blank posts to get to the next guide post. This link will not appear if the current post you're in has a valid guide / SFW post behind it.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part Y >>>>>>>>>>]
- Like the "Next To Part X" description, this link will propel you forward to the next guide / SFW (Safe For Work) post if there is a NSFW post or a series of blank posts between the next guide / SFW post. So for example, if you're in Part 734, Part 735 to Part 1,300 are blank posts, then the "Next To Part +1" will sat "Next to Part 735" and the "Next To Part Y" will say "Next to Part 1,300". Also, if you're in Part 2,000, Part 2,001 is a NSFW post, and Part 2,002 is a SFW post, then the "Next to Part +1" will say "Next To Part 2,001" and the "Next To Part Y" will say "Next to Part 2,002". This link will not be present if the post after the current guide post you're in is SFW or is a valid guide post.

[>>>>>>>>>> Admins/Mods/Ex-Mods >>>>>>>>>>]
- The admins/mod/Ex-mod link to news posts (there will be a mini index page) that contain a list of current moderators, demodded moderators from the past (Ex-mods) and the current administrators/staff members. If there is a need to quickly report some type of abuse, like you were going to report BBS abuse but found more serious abuse or want to bring it to their attention faster, use this link to quickly send a PM to any of the moderators/administrators of the site. Note that the list of demodded mods is still there, because even though you can PM the current mods, some of them will not reply, so instead of annoying them, you can PM the Ex-mods if needed since they have had moderating experience. It's still recommended to PM the current mods, but it's up to you on who to PM. Just keep in mind that reporting abuse to the Ex-mods is pointless since they don't have moderation powers.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[<<<<<<<<<< Back To Topic -1 <<<<<<<<<<]
- The "Back To Topic -1" is a link to the previous MAJOR topic. Like for example, if you're in "Reviewing Submissions", then the previous major topic would be "Voting Fairly on Submissions" and that is what will appear in place of the "Back To Topic -1" on the navigation.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Topic +1 >>>>>>>>>>]
- The "Next To Topic +1" is a link to the next MAJOR topic. Like for example, if you're in "User Accounts", then the "Next to Topic +1" would say "Account Security" (no 'next to' phrase) since "Account Security" is the next major topic after "User Accounts".
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Back/Next to Related Topic #1 <<<<<<<<<<]
[>>>>>>>>>> Back/Next to Related Topic #2 <<<<<<<<<<]
[>>>>>>>>>> Back/Next to Related Topic #3 <<<<<<<<<<]
- Some posts will contain guides that belong in more than one category/topic. Like for example, one of the guides (like the level icons) may have the titles "The NG Screenshot Archive Part 1 & The FAQ Part 3" or something like that. If that is the case, then 2 of the "Back/Next to Related Topic" will contain links to the "NG Screenshot Archive" index page AND the other one will contain a link to "The NG FAQ 100% Elaborated & Fixed" index page. In other words, it's a link to the main category. In the example, the main categories the guide belongs in are "NG Screenshot Archive" and "The NG FAQ 100% Elaborated & Fixed". Therefore, there will be 2 links to the 2 index pages of those respective topics. This is to make it easier to browse through all the guides in a single category/topic, since some of them are not grouped together.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Back To Current Topic Index Page <<<<<<<<<<]
- This is simply a link to the index page of the current topic you're in. For example, if you're in "The History of Newgrounds", then this link will say "Back to History of Newgrounds Index Page". It's a convenient way to get back to the index page of the topic you're currently in.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> To Guide Topics List >>>>>>>>>>]
- The "To Guide Topics List" links to a news post where it has all the links to ALL the MAJOR topics covered in this guide. As a measure to prevent cluttering the navigation with links to all the major topics covered in the guide (then the navigation will be more than 25 lines long and will be annoying to the viewers), all of them have been crammed into a single news post. So if you wish to navigate yourself through various topics, click this link and use the next series of news posts to pinpoint what you're looking for. The Guide moderation, suggestions, features, etc. forms links are also provided in that topics post.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Guide Posting Rules >>>>>>>>>>]
- The "Guide Posting Rules" link is a link to the rules of posting within the guide. Be sure to read them. Break these rules, and depending on the severity of the offense, your comment may be deleted and you may be banned. (There is a grey area, and I'll try to be fair.) You see, I don't feel like tolerating and putting up with assholes that enjoy ruining the enjoyment other users are having (and potentially ruin the hard work of this guide as well), so these rules are in place to keep people civil and preserve the fun. Use common sense and your chances of breaking the rules are close to 0%. Only mods and admins can break these rules; all users must abide by them. Fucking up the interactive parts of the guide will get you a longer ban.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
[>>>>>>>>>> Back To Guide Index >>>>>>>>>>]
- The "Back To Guide Index" is a HUGE index page that links to all other index pages throughout the guide. Navigation through these news posts can get quite confusing, so be sure to read the descriptions under each link before deciding on clicking on them. It's like starting from a traffic circle and deciding on which path to take and so on. If you ever get yourself lost, click on the "Back To Guide Index" link and you can start over again. The navigation appears even on index posts and for some random reason if the navigation is shortened (which it shouldn't be, since there are ample amounts of blank posts to store excess amounts of information) this link will never disappear; it will appear in all guide & non-guide posts.

() = Guide Post
(B) = Blank Post
(I) = Index Page
(IA) = Interactive Post
(R) = Repeated Post
(D) = Disabled post
(E) = Empty Post
(NSFW) = Not Safe For Work
Sure the navigation is set up and everything, but exactly what the fuck is behind the post? Is it a blank post that is there to store excess information? Is it a post that contains nudity or anything that is not safe for work? This key will "generally" inform you on what the next post is. In all cases, there will be an alternate way to jump over the post(s) that can be classified as the above types and go on to the next valid & SFW guide post. (If you have read the guide navigation above, you would know how to jump over it.)
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
() = Guide Post
- This is to tell you that the next post is a VALID guide post, and there is no NSFW content in there. This tag will not appear next to the link that links to the valid guide post. Rather, there will be nothing next to the part number in the link.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(B) = Blank Post
- Since there is no feature on an NG account that allows users to change the order of their news posts, there are tons and tons of blank posts in the guide. These are merely a post that says "Blank Post" in the post content with the comments enabled. These posts are there so that if NG releases a new feature, a new rule has been added, or there is something that demands explanation, these posts will host those explanations (if they cannot be fit anywhere else).
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (B) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(I) = Index Page
- This tells you that the next guide post is an index page (probably an index page of the nearest 200 parts behind it) and will contain no new guide information.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (I) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(IA) = Interactive Post
- Some topics have an interactive news post within them. These posts are not exactly guides, and require users' participation in order to function and provide the benefits. For example, Part 2 is an interactive post, since users need to bring in links to abusive reviews (participation) so that they and other users can flag them for whistle points (benefit). Since these parts don't really contain vital information, this tag will appear next to the part number.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 2 (IA) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(R) = Repeated Post
- As a safety feature to prevent the scenario of excess information not being able to fit, there will be a post that may be repeated as little as 1 to as many as 10,000 times. These are generally blank posts, but have a set topic within them. For example, the BBS rules guide will have a lot of repeated posts, because there may be new rules made by the mods to enforce the BBS, and those rules need a place to go on the guide. So those "Repeated Posts" will serve as the sanctuary of that extra information (if it cannot be fit anywhere else). These are slightly different than blank posts, since "Repeated Posts" has a topic set in stone whereas blank posts could have variable topics specified for them.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (R) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(D) = Disabled post
- There are times when we won't know that NG will release an unexpected feature. An example is the Audio Portal having portal awards. Since it COULD possibly happen, there will be a news post reserved for that, but the news post will stay disabled until it happens (since it's not yet released). These are also as useless as blank posts, since they have no information (until the feature has been released).
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (D) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(E) = Empty Post
- These are generally posts that are empty, such as the posts that are under construction.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (E) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
(NSFW) = Not Safe For Work
- As the tag says, these are for posts that contain NSFW content. Normally these are frequently found in the "Art Portal" and "Flash Portal" topics, but they can be found literally anywhere. Note that NSFW is not only used just because of a NSFW visual image; if the writing/script of the post is so vividly written that the mental image form is NSFW, then that tag will still be present as a warning.
Example:
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (NSFW) >>>>>>>>>>]
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
During the navigation link, there will be tags next to the post number just to warn you what's in it. There WILL be a key below that post telling you what that tag means, so there's no need to memorize them (although you should memorize what NSFW and SFW means).
For example, if Part 10,000 is a NSFW post, then it would look like this:
~
[>>>>>>>>>> Next To Part 10,000 (NSFW) >>>>>>>>>>]
(NSFW) = Not Safe For Work
~
So that wraps up guide navigation.

If for any chance, you click on a link and go to a news post that has NOTHING to do with the guide; don't worry, there is navigation at the top of each non-guide news post. This is a safety precaution I have set up to prevent people becoming stranded in an unknown section of my page. On top of the non-guide post is a link to the nearest guide posts before and after the news post. For example, if you're in a random, non-guide news post, and the random news post is between Parts 34 and 35 of the guide, then in the navigation pane of that news post WILL contain links saying "Back to Part 34" and "Next to Part 35" along with other relevant links. The navigation for non-guide posts will not be explained here, since it will change more frequently from time to time. The navigation should be self explanatory, and will ONLY be found at the top of the news post; NOT at the bottom.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Newgrounds guide, or anything about Newgrounds in general, feel free to PM me; JUST FUCKING ASK! The PM link is available in every guide page under my profile information (outside of the guide news post itself) under "Contact". A stupid / retarded question is a question that is never asked, so don't worry about asking a "stupid" question; ask away! Also, users that tease or insult another user that asks a question WILL BE BANNED.
You can also comment on the guide news post itself (comments can be questions about the guide content, a remark about the guide, or anything along those lines. More info in the NG Guide Posting Rules page) if there are comments enabled. Please note that the comments for MOST of the posts are set to "Approved Comments Only" as a safety precaution to prevent unnecessary spam from spammers to clutter the guide. If you have left a comment, it will be approved, as long as you abide by the NG Guide Posting Rules (use common sense and you'll be fine with the rules) and do not spam. Generally speaking, if something won't fly on the BBS, chances are that it won't fly here. Due to the size of this guide, it may take awhile to get to comments, so PLEASE be patient! Any post that has comments enabled is active and the comment WILL be responded if left.
